The game Hay Day simulates farming activities with a cartoonish flair. Brightly colored animations add to the visual appeal.
It begins with a tutorial during which the gamer learns how to operate the touch screen controls. After clicking and dragging field plots from a shop menu, a gamer plants wheat or corn. The variety of crops a gamer has access to increases through level ups. Leveling up also leads to the availability of additional field plots, leading to higher crop yields. Each crop in the game takes a certain amount of time to grow. Crops that appear later in the game take the longest time to grow. Wheat takes only two minutes to grow before harvest but larger crops such as pumpkins grow for three hours.
Hay Day provides an interactive gaming environment appropriate for all ages. It avoids the gruesome side of livestock farming; slaughtering animals never comes into play. Instead machines extract bacon from pigs without harming them. As well the livestock requires food to produce goods, but not feeding an animal will never lead to its death. Therefore children can learn the importance of agriculture without getting too much exposure to the life cycle. Surely no parents will develop aversions regarding the game’s content.
