What’s fun in Hay Day

Hay Day provides an interactive gaming environment for all players. You can find a lot of fun in this game! It avoids the gruesome side of livestock farming; slaughtering animals never comes into play. Instead machines extract bacon from pigs without harming them. As well the livestock requires food to produce goods, but not feeding an animal will never lead to its death. 

A chicken coop then pops up in the shop menu for purchase. After placing a coop on the farm, a gamer can house up to six chickens. However chickens only produce eggs when fed. Livestock feed mills utilize the crops grown on field plots to make animal feed. At first it takes little strategy to keep the few chickens fed, but as cows, sheep, pigs, and goats make their way into the game, feed mills must work at an unrelenting pace to keep up with hungry animals. Much like with crops, each species of livestock takes a specific amount of time to produce the products they supply. A chicken produces an egg in fifteen minutes whereas it takes a sheep five hours to generate wool. As gamers progress, multiple chicken coops, cow and sheep pastures, and pig pens allow for the simultaneous production of a greater number of livestock products. Of course the addition of more livestock means feed mills have to produce greater quantities of livestock feed.


Money plays a big role in Hay Day. Gamers must purchase items and livestock from the shop menu and therefore must find ways to make money. Selling goods to neighbors that wander up the driveway is a sure way to collect gold coins. Each farm also includes a delivery truck parked next to an order board. Each order requires a certain number of products that correspond with the gamer’s level of achievement. Filling these orders (as well as the orders that arrive by steamboat later on in the game) provide not only money but also the experience points required to level up. Every farm also includes a roadside market where goods offered up for sale are purchased by other gamers in the Hay Day community.


Hay Day allows gamers of all ages to participate in an environment where buying and selling goods leads to achievement. It promotes community building through the inclusion of roadside markets through which gamers aid each other’s pursuits. It also permits young gamers to learn about the workings of an agricultural economy without pushing their maturity to the limits.
